History:
The car has been progressively modified since 1972 by Fred Zimmermann (later; Zimmermann Autosport). It has been campaigning in the Alfa Romeo Club, Vintage SCCA, VARA, HMSA, HSR-West, Auto Club of Mexico and others. Race tracks included; Riverside, Palm Springs, Del Mar, California Speedway, Willow Springs, San Diego, Tecate-Mex, Ensenada-Mex, La Carrera de Mexico, San Felipe-Mex.
We raced in Mexico for 2 years and won every race except one (2nd place) in under 1.6 liter. We were asked to move into the under 2.0 liter class to give others a “chance” and again won all races we entered. In 2005 we raced at Calif. Speedway in a mixed group and classes of 39 cars and not only qualified on the pole but also placed 1st and over-all win.
One of the most memorable events was when Roger Ward (2 time Indy winner) drove the car at Willow Springs. He was very impressed.
One other event worth mentioning, the La Carrera de Mexico, the car averaged 161 kmh (100 mph) over 80 km traitorous mountain road. Top speed radar clocked at 134 mph. The car won its class and placed 7th over-all against Porsches, Corvettes, Mustangs, BMW’s etc.
